Interconnect and speaker cables are full components of audio. Often, the owners completely shift the advantages and disadvantages of the sound path to the other components of the audio system. And in vain - insufficiently high-quality connectors are able to practically destroy the sound, turning it into a faded faded canvas, very far from the artist's intention.
We recommend that you pay attention to the optimal selection of the phase of the power supply for each active component of the path when setting up the path. Those. for a source (CD-audio or DVD player), amplifier (receiver), you need to find such a position of the power cord plug in which their sound is most correct. For one signal source and amplifier, the number of plug position options is only 4. So take the time to complete this procedure. When making these switches, pay attention first to such sound parameters as dynamic range, tonal balance and stereo panorama in width and depth. Even if you do not believe in this procedure, then try it, the result will surprise you.
Next, we need test records. You will have to select a list of test recordings from the sound material known to you, which will allow you to evaluate various aspects of the sound of the path. Those. You should be familiar with the sound of all of these recordings on your audio path before evaluating cables. When selecting test recordings, try to form their set so that there are 1-2 recordings among them that allow you to evaluate all aspects of the soundtrack. The rest of the recordings of the set should be selected in such a way that with the help of one specific recording it was possible, first of all, to judge some particular aspect of the sound. Further, the test records should be ranked in order of importance. This order will need to be followed when carrying out the cable comparison itself. It is optimal to build the sequence in such a way that the recordings go first, allowing you to evaluate the sound of the path as a whole, and then in accordance with the importance of one or another aspect of the sound, in decreasing importance. This will allow you to prematurely terminate the testing procedure if one of the cables is inferior to the other according to the most important criteria.
Before testing:your equipment should be warmed up. It is unacceptable to test on new equipment. Usually, the sound parameters of new equipment will stabilize after 120-150 hours of use. Testing of cables should begin no earlier than 20-30 minutes after turning on the equipment.
When reconnecting cables, turning off the equipment is unacceptable.
All cables (interconnect and acoustic), including candidate cables, must be in general operation for at least 120 hours to stabilize the parameters. Participation in the test of cables that have not passed preliminary operation within the specified time is unacceptable, because will not allow to draw correct conclusions;
The listening position should be adjusted to the volume level prior to testing. Volume control is not allowed until testing is complete. It is better to set the volume level in the range of 93–96 dB at the maximum level among the test recordings.
And at the end...
In our case, the goal of cable evaluation is to maximize the capabilities of your system by choosing the best interconnect cable. Since you are the most important listener of your system, the sound is assessed, first of all, according to your hearing, and accordingly it is better to listen to cables in your system or at a higher level, but in terms of sound delivery similar to your preferences.
